Tommaso Benciolini — flautist, founder and Artistic Director of L'Appassionata.
Tommaso Benciolini, flautist, is the founder and Artistic Director of L'Appassionata. Winner of the 2017 New York Respighi Prize, he made his Carnegie Hall debut in New York in 2018 and is today at the centre of a busy international concert career.
He has performed as a soloist in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Vienna Musikverein, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Seoul Arts Center in Korea, the Herkulessaal in Munich and the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
He has appeared as a guest soloist with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of New York, the Berliner Symphoniker, the Nürnberg Symphoniker, the Münchener Kammerphilharmonie, the OSI – Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the North Czech Philharmonic, the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach, the Havana Chamber Orchestra, the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra and the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
He is the dedicatee of numerous contemporary works, including the flute concerto The Garden of Delights — A Flute Concerto after Bosch by Andrea Battistoni, which he premiered in 2020 on the occasion of his debut in the Großer Saal of the Berlin Philharmonie.
Highly active as a researcher, he made the first-ever recording of Mendelssohn's Trio in D minor Op. 49 in the version for flute, cello and piano; he has also rediscovered a trio by Nino Rota and brought to light several flute works by Antonio Vivaldi.
In 2021 his debut CD was released on the SONY Classical label: a world-premiere monograph dedicated to Antonio Vivaldi together with the chamber orchestra L'Appassionata, which he founded, met with unanimous acclaim from journalists, critics and radio.
In 2012 he became the youngest teacher at the «E. F. Dall'Abaco» Conservatory of Music in Verona; he currently holds the chair of flute as full professor at the «F. A. Bonporti» Conservatory of Music in Trento. He has also been invited to give masterclasses as a guest teacher in the United States (University of Central Florida), Cuba, Finland, Estonia, Malta and Dubai.
In 2019 he founded the chamber orchestra L'Appassionata, of which he is Artistic Director, overseeing its artistic vision and musical programming. He also directs the chamber-music series Le Stanze della Musica in Verona.
